Gulab Jamun Recipe

Preparation Time: 15 mins.
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Makes 12 servings


For jamun
1 cup (125 gms) grated khoya
2 1/2 tbsp plain flour (maida)
1/4 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder

For sugar syrup
1 1/2 cups sugar
a few saffron (kesar) strands


For sugar syrup
1. In a large pan, dissolve the sugar in 1 cups of water.
2. Bring it to a boil & simmer on low flame.
3. Prepare syrup of 1 string consistency.
4. Remove any impurtiies which float on top of the syrup.
5. Add the saffron and keep the syrup warm.

For gulab jamuns
1. Combine the khoya, flour and cardamom powder and mix well.
2. Knead to a firm dough without using any water.
3. Divide the mixture into 12 eqaul parts.
4. Roll out into rounds.
5. Refrogerate for 10-15 mins.
6. Deep fry in ghee over a slow flame till the jamuns are golden brown.
7. Drain and immerse in the warm sugar syrup. Soak for 30 minutes.
8. Serve hot or chilled.

  1. I tried to fry the jamuns but they keep breaking in the oil. I know you use ghee but i have cholesterol problem so i used olive oil instead> Can you tell me how much oil in need in this recipe? Please help! Thank you.

    • Hi, Thanks for trying the recipe. I would suggest you to knead the mixture lightly for 10-12 minutes and I am sure it will turn out to be perfect Gulab Jamuns for you.
